Pilot Boarding Area River Tyne
Seaward Approaches
Notice is hereby given that all vessels requiring a pilot for entry to the River Tyne should proceed to the designated pilot boarding area in position 55 degrees 02.0'N 001 degrees 20.2'W. All vessels awaiting their pilots should not proceed any closer to the piers unless otherwise directed by "Tyne VTS" or "Tyne Pilots" onboard the Pilot launch.
Vessels proceeding to the anchorage area should inform Tyne VTS on channel 12 of their intentions when reporting at 2 hours from the Pilot Station, and on completion of anchoring along with their anchor position.
The pilot launch can be in most cases identified by a black hull and orange topside with "PILOTS" on both sides.
Pilot ladders should be rigged on the leeward side, 1.5m above the sea level. All vessels should have a boarding speed of 6 knots unless otherwise directed.
This formal designation of a Pilot Boarding position will be incorporated into the appropriate Admiralty Charts in due course.
Further information may be obtained by contacting Tyne VTS on (0191) 257 2080 or VHF Ch 12.
Owners, Agents and Charterers should ensure that the contents of the Navigation Notice are made known to Masters and persons in charge of their vessels.
