About Us
The board of the Port of Tyne comprises four executive directors, and eight non-executive directors appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport.
The Port of Tyne operates for the benefit of its stakeholders and the members of the board are responsible for the Port's corporate governance and monitoring the performance of its business areas, its management and staff, both directly and through established board committees.
The Port has five business areas together with six support areas, which are responsible for the continued development and long term strategic success of the port. These are:
Business Development
The Port's Commercial Team is responsible for developing new business opportunities and identifying strategies to increase trade growth.
Engineering including Environment, Health & Safety
The Engineering team comprises areas of mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, employing our own qualified engineers involved in planning construction and maintenance of Port facilities and infrastructure.
The Environment, Health & Safety team are committed to ensuring the sustainably of the Port's business operations and the impact on the environment, while ensuring safe working practises.
Finance, Information Technology & Legal Services
The Finance team manage financial reporting, accounting and procurement identifying key performance indicators necessary to improve business operations.
The Information Technology team is responsible for the effective implementation and operation of the information systems and applications across all operational areas.
The Legal Services team has responsibility for the compliance of financial and legal practices, as well as issues of corporate governance and liaising with external regulators and advisers.
Human Resources & Facilities
The Port's Human Resources team are responsible for all employment policies and procedures, including management development, recruitment, performance development and employee relations.
The Facilities team combine resources and activities to support all areas of the Port.
Marketing & Communications
The Marketing team is responsible for press and media planning and developing promotional strategies for all five business areas, which seek to develop new and existing markets.
Marine Services including Port Security
Marine Services has responsibility for the tidal reaches of the Tyne and ensuring the safety of navigation. The Marine team is responsible for the provision of pilots and boat crews and the operation of a debris collection vessel.
Operating under the International Ships and Port Facilities Security Code our Security team manage stringent security across all operational areas of the Port.
